Traction and Control with e-LSD

One of the technologies that will wow performance-minded EV6 customers is the GT trim’s Electronic Limited-Slip Differential, or e-LSD. This feature adds to the thrill of driving an EV with near-instant torque by helping to optimize control and traction when cornering in certain conditions. e-LSD can shift torque from one wheel to another, automatically adjusting based on lateral G-forces, yaw rate, and the carrying wheel speeds.

Let’s look at how the e-LSD changes torque distribution in different driving modes on the EV6 GT.

Drive Mode: Eco
The EV6 GT will act as a fully Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) vehicle until the driver applies heavy acceleration. The e-LSD can then apply up to 50% of the torque to the front wheels.

Drive Mode: Normal
In this mode, the e-LSD can sense oversteer or understeer and make torque adjustments to help compensate the steering. The torque distribution will generally default to 10% front and 90% rear. Under heavy acceleration or at high speeds, the e-LSD can detect the wheel with the least amount of traction and reduce torque to it while sending additional torque to the wheel with the most traction.

Drive Mode: Sport
The e-LSD has the same functionality as in Normal mode, but the torque is higher, with the split anywhere between 20% front and 80% rear to 50% and 50%. This allows the e-LSD to more aggressively push or pull the vehicle through the turn and help prevent oversteer or understeer.

Drive Mode: GT
This mode offers the same default 20% and 80% torque split as Sport, but the vehicle will switch to as high as 50% and 50% more frequently in GT mode than in Sport mode.

Drive Mode: Drift
In Drift mode, the e-LSD can help with drifting by redistributing power from the motors between the front and rear wheels. While in Drift mode, EV6 is inclined to purposefully oversteer, delivering up to 100% of motor power to the rear wheels.

Drive Mode: My Drive
This is a custom created by the driver by combining other drive modes, so the e-LSD will reflect the characteristics of whatever modes have been combined.
