It’s important to cover key electrified vehicle technologies with your Niro EV customers before they drive off the lot—including regenerative braking*!

When coasting or braking, the wheels turn the motor and generate kinetic energy. Niro EV’s standard Adjustable Regenerative Braking* System helps capture that energy and is designed to use it to charge the EV battery. Let’s review how this system works.

Adjustable Regenerative Braking* System

Niro EV’s Adjustable Regenerative Braking* System offers different levels of regeneration: 0, 1, 2, 3, and MAX (also known as i-PEDAL*)—the greatest rate of regeneration. To switch between levels, customers can pull the steering-wheel-mounted paddle-shifters*—the left-side paddle increases regeneration, while the right-side paddle decreases it. i-PEDAL* can be activated at any time by pulling and holding the left-side paddle to temporarily engage maximum regeneration.

The regenerative braking* level can also affect how driving the vehicle feels. Level 0 provides little to no regeneration but offers the lightest deceleration. Meanwhile, i-PEDAL* provides the most regeneration but has the strongest deceleration feel.

i-PEDAL* and One-Pedal Driving

i-PEDAL* allows customers to engage maximum regeneration for longer periods by using the regenerative braking* system to stop the vehicle without hitting the brakes. Instead, when active, i-PEDAL* can automatically apply the brakes as the driver releases the accelerator pedal. The vehicle slows as the accelerator pedal is released, activating the brake lights, and eventually bringing the vehicle to a complete stop.

One-Pedal driving functions similarly to i-PEDAL*, but instead of automatically braking when the accelerator pedal is released, the driver must pull the left paddle-shifter* while coasting to slow the vehicle.

Smart Regeneration System

Niro EV’s Adjustable Regenerative Braking* System also includes a Smart Regenerative System* that can automatically adjust the regenerative braking* between the available levels based on the vehicle detected in front of the EV. It helps minimize the use of both the brake and accelerator for efficiency and convenience.
