Remote Smart Parking Assist* (RSPA), For illustration purposes only

Trying to parallel park on a street can be inconvenient—that’s where Remote Smart Parking Assist* (RSPA) can help!

Available on certain Kia models, RSPA* comes in variations: Entry and Full. Entry RSPA* offers forward and reverse smart parking technology via the Smart Key fob, which the driver can use to navigate their Kia into a spot from outside of the vehicle. Full RSPA* not only includes this technology but also offers smart parallel and perpendicular parking with spot detection from outside or inside the vehicle.

Let’s look at how to use smart parallel/perpendicular parking from inside the vehicle (if equipped).

Smart Parking (Parallel and Perpendicular)

  1. While in Drive, press the Parking/View button until a notification is displayed on the infotainment screen.
  2. Slowly drive forward (less than 12 mph) to search for a parking space, staying close (approx. 3 feet) to the desired parking side. A notification will appear on the infotainment screen when a space is detected.
  3. Stop the vehicle and select the parking type: parallel reverse or perpendicular reverse.
  4. Select Smart Parking then press and hold the Parking/View button.
  5. Release the brake pedal while holding the Parking/View button and let go of the steering wheel. RSPA* will automatically control the steering wheel, vehicle speed, and gear shift.
  6. Hold the Parking/View button until the vehicle completes parking and a notification appears on the infotainment screen.

Smart Exiting (For Parallel Only)

  1. While in Park, press and hold the Parking/View button to check the space around the vehicle.
  2. Once the check is complete, select the direction for the vehicle to exit.
  3. Release the brake pedal while holding the Parking/View button and let go of the steering wheel. RSPA* will automatically control the steering wheel, vehicle speed and gear shift.
  4. Hold the Parking/View button until the vehicle exits the parking space.

A notification will appear on the infotainment system screen when the exit is complete.

Important Reminders

  • Always check the surroundings before engaging RSPA*.
  • If the Parking/View button is released, smart parking will pause until the button is pressed and held again.
  • RSPA* can be canceled by depressing the brake, touching the steering wheel, or unbuckling the driver’s seat belt.
  • RSPA* parallel and perpendicular parking can only be used when vehicle(s) are detected in the adjacent spots. (Applies to RSPA 1.0 & 1.5 – only uses ultrasonic. RSPA 2.0 doesn’t require this; can park in empty spots when there are visible lines which uses both ultrasonic and camera fusion)
  • RSPA* can’t be used for diagonal parking spaces.
