One helpful feature of the Mahle refrigerant system is the ability to identify which refrigerant is in the vehicle. This refrigerant identifier (RFID) uses an O2 sensor to provide a baseline signal, much like the one in your smog check equipment. And like your smog check machine, the Mahle O2 sensor is a maintenance item. The A/C machine can tell you when to replace the sensor.

When You Need to Replace the Sensor

Which part should you order? Well, it depends on whether your Mahle has an IDX or a Neutronics RFID. Here is how to tell the difference:

  • The IDX RFID has an external O2 sensor with part number 022 80181 00. The RFID is shown below.
  • The Neutronics RFID has an internal O2 sensor with part number 022 80174 00. This part is located behind a round plug on the front. The RFID is shown below.
