A wide range of variables can impact EV range*. That’s why it’s important for customers to be aware of the most commonly encountered types and how to minimize their impact.

Use of HVAC

Heavy use of the Heating/Air Conditioning system can reduce EV range*.

TIPS

  • Use the “AUTO” climate setting to maintain both a comfortable cabin temperature (72° F) and optimal energy usage
  • Use the “Driver Only” mode or the “Recirculating” setting to keep the cabin comfortable and minimize HVAC impact
  • Turn off the HVAC system when not needed
  • If available, utilize the heated steering wheel and heated* or ventilated seats instead of the HVAC

Previous Driving Patterns and Cargo

If the EV was previously driven at high speeds, accelerated quickly, or loaded with heavy cargo, it will have a lower remaining range*.

TIPS

  • Maintain a moderate driving speed, accelerating smoothly and at a steady rate
  • When possible, use the ECO drive mode
  • Do not load unnecessary items or cargo in the vehicle
  • Limit the use of external cargo add-ons that may increase wind resistance and vehicle weight
  • Always maintain recommended tire pressures

Natural Battery Degradation and Warranty*

As an EV ages, it’s natural for the battery to lose some of its capacity and overall range*.

TIPS

  • Minimize the use of electrical components while driving
  • Kia’s 10-year/100,000-mile Battery Pack Warranty* covers battery degradation
