Keeping Vehicle Cameras Clean

Today’s Kia vehicles come equipped with a variety of ADAS^* features that rely on cameras and sensors to function properly. These cameras, sometimes located at the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle, need to be kept clean to ensure optimal performance and visibility. Check out how to keep them squeaky clean!

Vehicle Camera Cleaning Tips

Finding the cameras:

• Backup cameras: Typically located above the license plate.
• Side view cameras: Usually near the side mirrors.
• Front facing cameras: Located behind the windshield by the rearview mirror.
• Additional sensors: Positioned in the front and rear bumpers, depending on the model.

Cleaning the cameras:

• Backup and side view cameras:
  • Use a car wash-specific product that is mild and formulated for car paint.
  • Clean with a microfiber cloth and soapy water.
  • Avoid spraying the camera directly with a high-pressure washer.
  • Do not use cleansers containing acid or alkaline detergents.
  • Avoid solvents like gasoline or acetone.
• Front facing cameras:
  • Clean by operating the windshield wipers and washers.

Maintaining Camera Performance

• Regularly check for and remove foreign materials such as dirt, snow, rain, grime, or exhaust fumes from the camera lenses.
• Clean additional sensors in the front and rear bumpers regularly to ensure consistent operation.

For Kia’s ADAS^* technologies to work effectively, all cameras and sensors must be clean. Dirty or obstructed lenses may cause driver assist^* systems to not perform properly. Keeping these components clean can help ensure the safety and reliability of a vehicle’s advanced features.
