Did you know that there are user behaviors and conditions that may impact 12-Volt battery life in an EV? For instance, customers new to owning an EV may accidentally leave the vehicle ON with the keys inside if they park in a secured parking area.

The following list can be utilized when communicating with customers to determine the events leading up to a 12-Volt battery drain.

  • Leaving the vehicle in “Accessory” or “On” mode
    • What can you do? Ensure the vehicle is “Off” when parking in a garage if the remote, card key, or phone being used as a digital key is left in the vehicle
    • Ensure the trunk and frunk are closed
  • Using constant draw 12-Volt accessories such as dash cameras or radar detectors plugged into the vehicle ports
  • Using insurance trackers or dongles plugged into the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD II) port
  • Installing aftermarket stereo/audio equipment which may cause a current draw or keep the vehicle control units or systems awake
  • Providing Kia Connect* Login credentials including username/password to third-party (i.e., non-Kia) applications
    • Third-party applications may cause excessive Kia Connect* connections to a user’s EV
    • These third-party apps could be of any type, including, for example, those that check EV status, or provide potential discounts to a user’s electric bill from their power company
    • What can you do? If Kia Connect* Login credentials have been shared with third-party apps, users should change their Kia Connect* username/password and ensure the credentials (username/password) are not used with any other applications
