Modified 2024 Telluride X-Pro shown

All-Wheel Drive* (AWD) systems are affected when tires have differing circumferences. Some customers may complain of a chatter felt in the drivetrain and/or the failure of drivetrain component(s). A difference in tire size (width, aspect ratio, construction, rim diameter, etc.) may be the cause.

To prevent chattering, premature wear, and/or failure of the AWD* components, tires should be rotated at the interval specified in the maintenance section of the Owner’s Manual. The circumference of all four (4) tires should be within 10 mm of each other. To inspect the difference in tire circumference, refer to the measurement procedure listed below. If a variance of over 10 mm is found, all four (4) tires will require replacement. For information regarding the correct tire size, refer to the tire information placard found in the driver’s door jamb, the Owner’s Manual, or the Service Information found on KGIS.

IMPORTANT

Some AWD* vehicles may be equipped with staggered-sized tires (size difference between front and rear axles). To ensure the correct tire size is installed, always check the tire information placard found in the driver’s door jamb, the Owner’s Manual, or the Service Information found on KGIS.

How to Measure Tire Circumference
  1. Raise the vehicle until all four (4) tires are off the ground.
  2. Measure the circumference of each tire (A) by using a non-metallic, flexible measuring tape (B).
  3. If the difference in tire size is 10 mm or greater, the tires will need to be replaced.
