What to Know About EV Battery Conditioning

What is EV Battery Conditioning?

Battery conditioning warms the high-voltage EV battery in cold temperatures to help maintain optimal vehicle performance.

What are the benefits of EV Battery Conditioning?

Because cold conditions can negatively impact EV performance, battery conditioning can help improve both driving performance and DC Fast Charging^* rates in the winter. For example, if you navigate^* to a DC Fast Charging^* station, Battery Conditioning Mode can raise the battery temperature to an adequate temperature to reduce the required charging time.

When does Battery Conditioning Mode trigger?

If equipped with a battery heater, the conditioning can trigger if the vehicle detects the EV battery temperature is low while driving or when remote^* climate control is activated. Conditioning Mode will NOT trigger if the battery capacity is at 20% or less, despite battery temperature, nor will it trigger if the distance to a charging station would expend more than the energy left in the EV battery.

How do I know if Battery Conditioning Mode is active?

The battery conditioning indicator light () will illuminate in the instrument cluster to signify Battery Conditioning Mode is operating.

Does Battery Conditioning Mode impact range?

Yes. Battery Conditioning Mode requires energy to increase the EV battery temperature and can therefore lead to reduced range^*.

How do I disable Battery Conditioning Mode?

Infotainment Screen > EV > Settings > Battery Conditioning Mode > Uncheck the box
