The new Sportage PHEV and Niro PHEV are stepping up their game with a high-voltage PTC heater for electric driving mode!

Non-plug-in hybrid models are still rocking the 12V PTC because they don’t roll in full EV mode.

Take a look at the picture below to see where the new heater is located (shown on the 2023 Sportage PHEV).

But remember—safety first! Be sure to follow all the correct safety procedures when testing and repairing PTC heaters on these models.

  • When dealing with the High-Voltage system, leave it to the pros—technicians who’ve completed relevant training. A lack of understanding of the High-Voltage system can lead to serious accidents caused by electric shock or short circuit.
  • If you’re in the High-Voltage system zone or its related components, keep your eyes peeled for the “Safety Precautions, Cautions, and Warnings.” Ignoring those may cause serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.
  • Oh, and don’t forget to check your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and give the High-Voltage shut-off procedure a quick once-over. Again, safety first!
