Section 609 Certification is a requirement of the United States Clean Air Act of 1990. All Kia Dealer Technicians servicing air conditioning (A/C) systems must be certified to handle R134a and R1234yf A/C refrigerants currently used in all Kia vehicles.

Additionally, effective January 1, 2018, certification is required to purchase the refrigerant. For more information visit the Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) website at: https://www.macsw.org.

Consequences of Noncompliance

Failure to comply with the Section 609 Certification requirements could result in a fine of as much as $27,500 per day, per violation! Dealer Technicians who violate the provisions of the Clean Air Act may be fined, lose their certification, and may be required to appear in Federal court.
